Arkadi mtb / road

Arkadi is a historical, Byzantine monastery of 5th Century. Built like a castle, it is the most historic monastery of Crete. It had a leading role in the liberation of Crete and it is designated by UNESCO as a European Freedom Monument. It is located on a fertile and verdurous plateau, over the gorge that connects Amari, Mylopotamos and Rethymno. The area has a unique natural beauty, with pine, oak, cypress trees, herbs and olive groves.

Panormo - Prinos - Kapsaliana - Amnatos - Arkadi - Pikris

Our ride is mixed, on and off road. We climb on quiet, low traffic asphalt roads and back-country farmer tracks. We ride to Kapsaliana, through Amnatos to Arkadi. A short bike stop with an optional visit in the monastery before we return descending, off road, into the beautiful Arkadiano gorge to Pikris traditional settlement. From there we head to Viran Episkopi for a final descent to the coast.
